OUT NOW!

The Lady Pirates is the new novel from Robert Cort and it's available now...

Pirates have existed since men first traded at sea. In the 18th century, two extraordinary women, Mary Read and Anne Bonny, choose to reject their humdrum lives and seek daring pirating adventures. Along the way, they will acquire wealth beyond their wildest dreams.

They first meet on the pirate ship Revenge, where a close friendship quickly develops. Both prove to be brave and fearsome fighters, accumulating large quantities of gold, silver and jewels. Eventually captured, tried and convicted of piracy, they are sentenced to life imprisonment. Here they are subjected to terrifying ordeals and appalling cruelty. Escape seems impossible until they spot a chance

opportunity. Could this be the moment that leads them to freedom—a return to their swashbuckling careers, or a time to change direction and finally realise the value of their hidden treasure?

About
Robert Cort in Moscow_edited.jpg

Robert Cort

I always enjoyed writing as a child but my life took me on a different path with a career in the commercial insurance world and hobbies such as being a semi-professional footballer and playing golf to a low handicap standard. Following retirement and golf taking more of a backseat during the winters, I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a published author and thus began the journey to writing The Opportunity - my debut novel. This book set up the possibility of a series and 'The Challenge', 'The Decision', 'The Gamble' and 'The Result' have now been published.

Inspired by John Grisham's books, the British television series, 'Fake or Fortune?' and a trip to Moscow, I came up with the idea for the Ian Caxton thriller series.

Ian Caxton is a senior manager at Sotheby's. After successful career moves to Sotheby's branches in New York and Hong Kong, Ian is now based in London and earmarked for the top position.  However, following a chance meeting with Andrei, a very rich Russian art dealer based in Monaco, Ian suddenly reassesses all his plans and ambitions. Even his marriage is under threat. The Opportunity charts the tumultuous life and career of Ian Caxton as he navigates the underbelly of the art world, one of serious wealth, heart-stopping adventure and a dark side. The big question is, will Ian take The Opportunity? And if he does, what will the consequences be, not only for him, but also for his wife and colleagues?

The art world is full of pitfalls, mysteries and risk. It is a place where paintings can be bought and sold for millions of pounds. Fortunes can be made... and lost. For those whose ambition is to accumulate wealth beyond their wildest dreams, expert knowledge, confidence, bravery and deep pockets are certainly needed. Ian Caxton is being tested by fake paintings, a financial gamble on the artwork of a black slave, his wife's life-changing news and a series of mysterious emails that suggest he's being watched. More dramatic events, mental conflicts and soul searching decisions. How will Ian cope with all these extra demands? This is the big question, that is The Challenge.

A worrying letter from a dead colleague, a Gainsborough painting downgraded by the experts, a new partnership opportunity, an unexpected statement from his boss and his wife’s announcement of her new ambitions. These are just some of the new challenges we see Ian Caxton having to grapple with this time. What will Ian choose to do? What will the consequences be? Will he make the huge life-changing decision?

In Antigua, Oscar joins up with a new business colleague, but soon discovers a world of fraud, deception and murder. Penny experiences unforeseen changes to her life and Viktor is informed of an amazing surprise.

The Gamble is the fourth volume in the Ian Caxton Thriller series. Ian Caxton has committed to a major change in his career, but will the gamble prove a success? Fresh challenges face Ian and his colleagues as they attempt to unravel more mysteries in the art world. Are the paintings of 'Sir Edgar Brookfield' and 'Mademoiselle Chad' worth millions of pounds? Who's the famous artist hidden behind the signature, 'Madeleine B' and why does Ian think an identical painting, currently on display in the Musée des Beaux- Arts d'Orléans, is really a fake? Is Gladstone's association with his boyhood hero connected to the murder of Millie Hobbie and why is Ian's nemesis, Jonathan Northgate, back in his life?
All is revealed in the continuing page-turning tales of adventure, risks and rewards, where paintings once considered lost are now worth millions of pounds.

When Ian Caxton is offered a ‘gift’ of a painting worth £25 million he knows it comes with ‘strings’... and he’ll also be breaking the law. The result could be a fortune... or a long term in prison.

Viktor sees a chance to help repatriate hidden paintings stolen by the Nazis during the Second World War, but could his honest intentions bring him into conflict with Ian?

Emma is close to unravelling the history of her ‘Mademoiselle Chad’ painting, worth an estimated £3 million. However, this value can only be realised if she can identify the owner prior to 1889.

Another absorbing page-turning tale involving more risks and rewards, but could The Result be the moment when Ian’s successes finally come to an end?
